Happy New Year! Okay, so I'm a little early. But it's never really too early to start thinking about what 2012 is going to bring us. Now in my opinion, we place way too much importance on New Years Eve. All the Facebook statuses generically say "this next year is going to be the greatest year of my life!" or "tonight everything changes!" or if you're in college, "let's get drunk!!!" Let's be real though, is this next year going to be any different? Is tonight honestly going to be the greatest night of your life? Do you really want to bring in the new year with an epic hangover? I'm kind of thinking the answer is no to all of the above. Now I don't consider myself to be a pessimist. If anything, I'm a realist. That's a little cliche now that I think about it. Okay you got me, I'm kind of pessimistic. I can be optimistic though! The reason I'm not all about New Years is because I believe you can make a change any day of the year you decide. Who ever said you have to wait until January 1? And honestly when you place so much importance on one day things are bound to go wrong. For instance, my day has sucked. Now I could say that an awful New Years is going to foreshadow the rest of 2012. But I say nay to this! Instead, I'm going to make a change.
My change is that I am not going to let anyone else control my happiness. No one can make me feel sad unless I let them. So from now on, I decide my own fate.
I'd say that's a pretty good. Maybe from now on I'll try to make a change at least once a week. Instead of one New Year's resolution I'll try to make a lifestyle change to become a happier person.
So for New Year's Eve all you need....is happiness. Have a happy beginning to 2012! (:
